This is my first nat 5 and I am very greatful for him.  Not only is his 3rd skill very desirable even for some late game players, but he can be built an a myriad of ways due to def scaling attacks, which can throw many people off in GW and Arena.  The three biggest stats for Velajuel are Spd, HP, and Def.  Def makes his 2nd skill hit really hard, but hp and his leader skill allow him to survive much longer, especially against lushen.  His uses aren't just limited to fighting other players though, he is an amazing monster for dragons runs due to almost perma immunity when runed violent.  To make the most of this mon, I recommend violent/will with spd, def, def, and hp subs.

My only good combo with him right now is my fire GW team.  Velajuel, Randy, and Sin.
Randy maximizes everybodies damage on his 3rd skill, and when given shield/violent runes and built hp/crit d/hp, he can help protect your def damaging team while dealing decient damage through criticals.
Velajuel protects the team and allows it to attack faster with his 3rd skill so the others don't need to focus on speed, and also boosts the team with his amazing leader skill.  Even thou he offers great support, Velajuel can deal good damage due to the power of his 2nd skill and the continuous damage it stacks on the enemy.
Sin is the icing on my fire GW team cake.  He deals amazing damage that scales off of def, stuns enemies on his first skill, and can annihilate enemies with the defense break and extra turn on his second skill.  When runed focus/revenge/revenge with def/def/def, he deals amazing damage, counters often, stuns often, and just perfectly completes the team.

From what I've faced so far, best Velajuels are the Violent ones, as they can proc and get perma-immunity in all the allies. Defense is of course a main stat for Vela, but Violent runes are a must in my opinion. Try to get as many Def and Spd as you can but use a Violent set to get the best performance
